The Rancho Bernardo community is built on rolling hills and plunging valleys, it is located 20 miles from Downtown San Diego and is surrounded by the neighborhoods of 4S Ranch, Carmel Mountain Ranch and the cities of Poway and Escondido. The neighborhood covers about 7,000 acres and is home to approximately 48,000 residents.
Rancho Bernardo has a 65 acre business park with companies like the Corporate Headquarters of Sony, Broadcom, Hewlett-Packard, Nokia and Eastman Kodak.
The community maintains its close-knit feel with a central town plaza where locals gather to enjoy the stores and restaurants. There is a range of architecture in Rancho Bernardo including large private homes, gated communities, golf homes, retirement communities and apartment buildings. The red tile roofs and stucco homes are typical of this neighborhood. Interstate 15 ruins through the community providing easy access to other parts of California.
Recreation, Culture and Entertainment

Rancho Bernado Winery
Rancho Bernardo boasts several quality golf courses including Oaks North Golf Course, the Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Course and the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo. The Bernardo Heights Country Club has an agreement with the local community center providing access to the swimming pool, tennis courts and gym. The Bernardo Winery is Southern California’s oldest winery and visitors are welcome to wine tastings. At the winery you’ll find village stores, an award winning café, bakery, art studios and an historic museum. The local library holds regular concerts, children’s programs and book sales. The Rancho Bernardo-Glassman Recreation Center offers classes in dance, karate, toddlers rhythmic gym, has basketball courts and even a program for dog training. For relaxation enjoy the day spa at the Rancho Bernardo Inn, the resort also has a selection of fine restaurants and of course the 18 hole champion golf course.
Outdoor Activities
Close by you can find Lake Hodge and Lake Poway where it is possible to fish, go boating and hike, cycling or horse riding in the surrounding countryside. The San Diego Wild Animal Park is also close by. Get some fresh air at the RB Community Park or take your dog to the soon-to-be-opened dog park.

Rancho Bernado Inn
The restaurants at the Rancho Bernardo Inn take first place for fine dining but the Urbanspoon names the Japanese and sushi restaurant, Akai Hana, the number one restaurant in Rancho Bernardo. Other top restaurants in the area are Pho Ca Dao & Grill for Vietnamese food, The Barrel Room for American cuisine and its wine bar and El Bizcocho for a romantic French restaurant. The majority of Rancho Bernardo restaurants are affordable family places but the neighborhood has a surprising selection of all types of cuisine to suit all budgets.
Festivals and Special Events
In the summer there is a street fair, RB Alive! In July the Recreation Center hosts Movies in the Park. During January and December there is a Friday Farmers Market at the Rancho Bernardo Winery. The Rancho Bernardo Inn welcomes the general public for Christmas activities during December, the activities are especially for kids.
