The Scripps Ranch neighborhood covers an area of 30,444 square miles and has a population of approximately 32,476. The racial demographic is balanced with a mix of white, black, Asian, Hispanic and other races. The community has several churches including Baptist, Catholic and the neighborhood is generally family orientated with most residence commuting to work each day.

Recreation, Culture and EntertainmentScripps Ranch

The SRCA Scripps Ranch Civic Association acts as the Community Town Council, they publish a community monthly newsletter which keeps people up to date with what is going on in the community and upcoming events. The SRCA organizes the 4th of July events, clean-up day, community fairs, garage sales, and holiday tree lighting during the Christmas season. The community also has a public library, Scripps Mirmar Ranch Library, where there are regular activities like the book discussion group, chess club, homework helpers, Amherst writer’s workshop, film forum, story time and even story time for school kids in Chinese! You can also attend fitness activities like Zumba classes and Tai Chi.

For some open green spaces you can visit Lakeview Park, Scripps Ranch Community Park or Hoyt Park which hosts several events throughout the year. From June through to December on Sunday evenings Symphony in the Park is held in Hoyt Park featuring a range of music styles. Friends and families are invited to bring a picnic basket and come enjoy the music. For cultural stimulation there is the Scripps Ranch Theatre where regular performances are held. The Scripps Ranch Recreation Center hosts summer Movies in the Park where, apart from the movies, there are arts and crafts stalls and kids activities. The center has a gymnasium, lighted ball fields, outdoor basketball courts and picnic areas and provides classes and recreational activities for all members of the family.

Outdoor Activities

Nearby Lake Miramar is a great escape from urban life, the scenic area is used for outdoor activities like boating, fishing and hiking, biking and jogging along the 5 mile long trail which circles the lake. Fishermen will find bass, carp and trout in the waters and families can use the picnic and BBQ areas along the water’s edge.

Restaurants and Cafés

Scripps Ranch’s top restaurants include Todo Japanese, Chez Nous, Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza, Ariana Kabob House and Santorini Greek Island Grill. La Bastide Bistro is the neighborhood’s most popular high-priced restaurant according to Urbanspoon.com. One of the most popular Scripps Ranch coffee shops is Java Mama Café at 9880 Hilbert Street and the neighborhood also has a Starbucks at 10625 Scripps Poway Parkway.

Festival and special events

Scripps Ranch Farmers Market and Family Festival is open every Saturday morning offering 60 vendors selling fresh, local, organic produce as well as arts and crafts. There is a section where you can eat a meal and a range of kid’s activities like face painting, the Penguin Treasure Hunt and balloon animals. On hand is a chiropractor and massage chair for parents who want to relax.
